Policing and Personal Safety
Meredith Nolan and Joanne Imrie from the Brunswick Community Policing Squad addressed the attending members about protecting one's personal safety.

A pressing issue is youth crime. Young offenders often scour streets and homes for raiding. They steal cars for personal enjoyment or more often on commission from criminal gangs who know young offenders are hardly penalised by the courts and let off lightly, so there is no accountability for their actions. The laws and judiciary appear to deficient here.
Another issue discussed was the prevalence of scams and the need to be always vigilant especially if on-line. An excellent booklet "The Little Book of Scams" is up to date and recommended reading. Mostly these are Finance and Romance Scams with catastrophic results. Beware!!

The advise given by our speakers is to report any non urgent crime to the Victoria Police on 131 444 or online at
